Sixteen year old Matthew Phillips has continued his 2010 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals campaign on the weekend (30th May). Competing in the Perelli Under 19s class at Newcastle, NSW, MX Central's Raymond Terrace. The circuit was inundated with a storm on Saturday which left the circuit muddy for Sunday's racing. Williams Event Management (WEM) promoters of the series placed markers on the circuit forcing riders to take outside lines during qualifying in an effort to keep the circuit in prime condition for the days racing which proved successful.
"My starts were pretty average, and with the competition as strong as it is, it doesn't allow for any mistakes. I knew I had to keep pushing and keep the bike upright. It worked and I finished fifth outright for the day which enabled me to move up to 3rd outright in the series points".
Matt finished eighth in the first moto, sixth in the second and fifth in the third. Matt will need to stay consistent sitting thirty-seven points behind Ross Beaton in second overall and six points in front of Luke Arbon currently fourth overall.
